“MGM Votes”

Strategy + Event Management

With the midterm election coming up, AAF hosted a voter registration drive to get people more excited about voting. It is very important to participate in our democracy—thus we felt it necessary to help those in the community register to vote.

Details: We hosted MGM Votes 2018, an event designed to highlight the importance of voting and allow attendees to register to vote. The main registration push was in conjunction with the National Voter Registration Day, held on September 25, 2018. The event was held at the newly opened restored and historic Kress on Dexter in downtown Montgomery. We partnered with the local radio Station Y102 Montgomery to help us turn it into more of a party than just a drive and get the word out. We also partnered with Rolling to the Polls, Voting Initiative to help with voter registration. And we invited other similar organizations, like SPLC on Campus, to set up tables at the event.

Target Audience: Members and the greater Montgomery community

Media and Materials used: We promoted the event with dedicated emails, email newsletter, a Facebook event, social media shares, flyers and posters, radio interview and radio promotion, our website, and Ticketleap.

Results: This event was a huge success. We had close to 50 people attend the event, an increase of 50% from the previous year. Partnering with Y102 and Rolling to the Polls brought in different crowds that we normally don’t reach. A couple of people who were running for office even attended as a way to reach their constituents. Not only were we able to inform the public with voter information, but we were able to register seven new first time voters. Lastly, we were able to promote who AAF Montgomery is to a new audience by telling them how we advocate for government relations as it pertains to advertising. We shared with them our future events so they could get involved with the club.

We then followed up with stats and trivia on social leading up to election day and a heavy election day push to encourage voting.
